Mental Health Mentorships
Our innovative Mental Health Intensive Mentorship consists of a three-day course where mental health providers develop a sensory processing lens to view behaviors associated with presenting mental health concerns.
This program is designed for Licensed Mental Health Providers and Registered Psychotherapists. Those holding a candidate permit or a provisional license are also welcome to attend.
Participants will develop critical thinking pathways for Sensory Processing Disorder recognition and impact on clients' presenting problem areas and develop a toolbox of assessment strategies and resources to use in practice for evaluation, referral and education.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand and describe foundations of sensory processing functions.
- Understand and use sensory language and concepts to describe clinical observations of client behavior.
- Develop hypotheses through assessment regarding possible sensory contributors to behavior presentations.
- Consider sensory components in differential diagnosis process
- Enhance foundational understanding of neurological contributors to associated presentations of ASD, ADHD, Anxiety Disorder across the lifespan
- Identify issues associated with sensory processing disorder in various environments (home, school, community) and how they contribute clients’ presenting problems across the lifespan
- Compare major components of typical development vs. uneven development vs. global delays in development for children and youth.
- Recognize signs of when to refer, to who and what their treatment should look like.
