Un message en français est disponible plus bas

Dear Colleague,

The Canadian Sleep Society is a national organization committed to improving sleep for all Canadians through: support for research, promotion of high quality clinical care, education of professionals and the public, and advocacy for sleep and sleep disorders medicine.

We would like to share with you an important message from one of our partners (Better Nights, Better Days)  that you could be useful for your patients.

BETTER NIGHTS, BETTER DAYS ARE RECRUITING 1000 FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN WHO EXPERIENCE SLEEPING PROBLEMS, please share!

Better Nights, Better Days is an evidence-based eHealth program to support parents of typically developing children ages 1-10 years old who experience sleeping problems including difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking too early.

The national team of investigators are conducting this study to understand if Better Nights, Better Days improves the sleep, mental health, wellbeing, and family resiliency in children and parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, and test how to scale-out the Better Nights, Better Days program to support families across Canada.

We are recruiting 1000 families of children who experience sleeping problems to test the clinical effectiveness of Better Nights, Better Days during COVID-19 and evaluate the implementation of the program to scale-out Better Nights, Better Days across Canada. There is no cost for families to participate.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Parent of a child is between the ages of 1 and 10 years old
  • Family resides in Canada
  • Parent has regular access to high-speed internet and email
  • Parent can read, write, and understand English
  • Child experiences behavioural sleep difficulties (i.e., problems falling asleep or falling asleep independently; problems following bedtime routines or bedtime resistance; problems staying asleep)

Please share this information with families who you feel may benefit from participating.

BM Withholding Resources & Ideas?

Please help re: a  7 yo client, with a seizure disorder and ADHD, who is withholding BMs more and more often, in part because using the bathroom has become a power struggle, and also at times she seems unaware that she needs to have a BM. She is given pull-ups as an option. She will have BM (and bladder) accidents weekly. Constipation is surprisingly not an issue.

Please share favourite strategies, poop books, toys, Calgary clinics to refer to, or other resources to suggest?

Sleep website for teenagers; and Downloadable 'comic-book' style sleep

Cary A Brown

hi everyone- this new sleep website for teenagers- Teen Sleep Hub-  https://teensleephub.org.uk/- has just been launched in the UK and it is full of great resources for teens and parents.

There is also a new 'comic-book' style sleep downloadable called Enlighten your Clock https://osf.io/emf2c/ that takes complex physiological processes and breaks them down into understandable science in an engaging format  appealing to older teens (and us post-teens can learn a lot there too!) -

- you might want to check them out and add to your clinical toolkit ☺

- please share widely on your social media sites!
