Rent your M-ABC etc please

 Hi OT's,

I am hoping to collaborate with some of the OT's in Calgary. I would like to get in touch with OTs who own assessment kits that they would be interested in occasionally renting to me. I am currently looking to rent a movement ABC assessment kit for ~2 days to complete an assessment.

If you own this assessment or another movement assessment (BOT-2) and are interested in sharing it with me - please email me at allison@risepediatrics.com

Thanks so much!

Allison

Assessment needed

Fatima Hussain fatimahussain.ot@gmail.com

Wed, Aug 19, 11:56 AM
I've got a family that is looking for a private OT assessment for their 6 year old son (7 in October). Unfortunately, I don't have access to an assessment kit for his age and was wondering if anyone could either do the assessment or would be willing to rent out assessment materials to me. I can be reached via e-mail at fatimahussain.ot@gmail.com.
Thank you!!

School Function Assessment Question

I have not used the School Function Assessment as part of the application for PUF funding as of late.   Does Alberta Learning accept the School Function Assessment as the key assessment for PUF qualification?   For example weak outcome on this assessment in combination with a mild language delay and ongoing motor and social participation difficulties.

Discussion: Are you told not to assess?

Are you told not to assess?

There is sometimes pressure from funding agencies to take short cuts.

We need to discuss, as a profession, how this can and cannot look.

As a licensed health professional, the OT must check

"... that terms of agreement in a contract with payer are not in contravention of professional obligations to client" (Association of Canadian Occupational Therapy Regulatory Organizations (ACOTRO))

Specifically, we can train a parent to teach their own child but we must assess the child and help the parent choose appropriate goals. For instance, we cannot spend time teaching a parent all about sensory strategies if that child is not affected in daily life by sensory strategies and it would not be appropriate to encourage a parent to teach a 4 year old how to tie shoes.

Thus, when the funding agency is saying it is unnecessary to assess, we have to be careful to qualify that it may be unnecessary to produce an assessment report, but it is necessary to at least do informal assessment.

Thoughts? Please post in comments

OT feedback wanted about assessments

Hello Occupational Therapy colleagues!

We are seeking information from therapists that are using both the Sensory Processing Measure as well as the Sensory Profile. Are there any preferences or circumstances in which you would use one over the other, and why? Which tool are therapists currently preferring to use?

Secondly, we are seeking feedback on using the Carolina Curriculum to assess children with significant needs as a comprehensive assessment tool. The PEDI is one option, but it does not capture fine motor development.

Are other therapists using the Carolina, and what are your thoughts about it?
Are there better or more current tools out there that therapists find more beneficial for this population of children?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.  Please COMMENT BELOW or email Anita.Ferri@sturgeon.ab.ca
