Occupational Therapists for two schools within Edmonton



Commencing immediately, Building Blocks Therapeutics Inc. is recruiting 1-2 Occupational Therapists for two schools within Edmonton for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year with a strong possibility of renewal for the 2022-2023 school year.

For the right candidate Building Blocks is able to offer a comprehensive benefits package.

·         Monthly salary range for this position is $6,400 to $7,900.00 based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE = 40 hours per week) and years of experience.

·         New employees working with Building Blocks Therapeutics Inc. must be fully vaccinated and submit proof of vaccination as a condition of employment before their first scheduled workday

·         The Occupational Therapist in this position is primarily responsible for assessment, consultation, capacity building for staff and families. The Occupational Therapist will work with Speech Language Pathologist, Behavioral Specialist and those addressing the needs of children in preschool and school age children.

  • The right candidate for this position should have professional expertise to identify, diagnose and treat delays and disorders in fine- and gross-motor, visual perceptual, regulation, and self-help. They will also be required to demonstrate for teachers and parents effective, occupational therapy strategies that support the needs of all learners.

    FUNCTION AND PURPOSE

Collaboration

 --

·         Liaise closely with the teachers, educational assistants, the multi-disciplinary team and parents who participate as part of each child’s support team.

·         Consult and participate in meetings with other professionals (both within and outside of the school); make recommendations for additional services for children/students as needed.

·         Support classroom teams to implement strategies within the classroom environment.

·         Provide in servicing to teachers, Educational Assistants, and families to help support needs.

Instructional Support

 

·         Develop and recommend activities to target individual goals and needs of children/students.

·         Demonstrate activities with large and small groups of children/students.

·         Collaborate to develop programming adaptations and strategies as required.

·         Support teachers and school teams in transitioning children/students to other grades/programs/schools.

·         Participate in development of department resources and initiatives as directed by the OT supervisor.

Activities to maintain professional accreditation as per ACOT guidelines.

·         EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·         Graduate of a Masters or Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.

·         Registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapist (ACOT) is mandatory; continuing professional development as per ACOT guidelines; professional liability as per ACOT guidelines.

Experience

Experience working in preschool, kindergarten and an educational setting is preferred; experience in pediatrics is strongly recommended.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDES

·         Ability to administer, score and interpret standardized pediatric occupational therapy assessments.

·         Identify difficulties in fine-motor, visual-motor, perceptual-motor, self-help, and regulation

·         Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

·         Write assessments and treatment reports to share with parents and professionals internal and external to the Independent School.

·         Ability to work independently while under the general direction of Occupational Therapy Supervisor.

·         Effective decision-making and leadership qualities.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Effective at creating and delivering presentations and learning sessions.

·         Ability to use technology to deliver services virtually (learning sessions, meetings, resources).

Flexible working hours ---

Usually at a different school every day (may be required to travel between schools during the day).
Travel within Edmonton, and the use of a personal vehicle, is required.---
