I met a woman whose grandson was diagnoses recently with Asperger's. They are looking for some resources. As I wasn't familiar with what is available in Alberta I thought I would contact you. They are investigating a private school as public is not going too well. He has a psychiatrist who is medicating for anxiety. It sounds like the mother needs to make some contact with other parents as her husband is not supportive. According to the woman he is also on the spectrum but in denial. They also have some OT support through the school.
Is there a regional Asperger's Society or equivalent in Edmonton? Do you know of any other organizations that might be helpful.
Please comment on the blog if you have any information.
Hello Jen;
ReplyDeleteThe Autism Society of Edmonton Area is a great resource for people with Asperger's syndrome and their families. This organization has been functioning in the Edmonton area for 40 years. There are support groups and resource staff available to respond to the families' questions and concerns. The website is www.autismedmonton. org, and the phone number is (780)453-3971
Hope this helps!
