Deep Touch Pressure Techniques Survey

The Spiral Foundation is pleased to be conducting a survey on practitioner's use of deep touch pressure techniques and modalities.

Currently there is a lack of information on the best clinical practices in the use of deep touch pressure in clinical settings. With your help we hope to document who uses deep touch pressure  techniques and modalities, with whom, under what circumstance and current clinical best practice in their use.

We hope you will please take a few minutes and share your expertise with us by completing our survey. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and we greatly value your input. We appreciate a response within the next two weeks.

Also, please forward this email to your colleagues .

We hope that you will help us out!  Please click the following link to go to the survey:

Asperger's Society in Edmonton?

I met a woman whose grandson was diagnoses recently with Asperger's. They are looking for some resources. As I wasn't familiar with what is available in Alberta I thought I would contact you. They are investigating a private school as public is not going too well. He has a psychiatrist who is medicating for anxiety. It sounds like the mother needs to make some contact with other parents as her husband is not supportive. According to the woman he is also on the spectrum but in denial. They also have some OT support through the school.

Is there a regional Asperger's Society or equivalent in Edmonton? Do you know of any other organizations that might be helpful.

Please comment on the blog if you have any information.

Optometrist in Edmonton

Hello,

I was referred to your blog by an OT here in Edmonton.  I am an optometrist with a private practice that specializes in Families.  My education at Pacific University College of Optometry gave me a great appreciation for Occupational Therapy and its role in the lives of families.  I wanted the OTs here in Edmonton to know I am accepting new patients and enjoy children in particular.  Please feel free to post my information and clinic in any of your emails or publications.  I am available by phone or in person for any questions.  My doors are always open if you want to stop by and see the office.

Many thanks,
--

Dyslexic fonts

Hi all,

I came across this CBC podcast (15 min) discussing a free (!!!) font designed to make it easier for people with dyslexia to read - some interesting points are raised (re: phonemic decoding & reading text etc.), and if you have a few min I'd recommend checking it out!

Here is the website for the font discussed: http://dyslexicfonts.com/

And a couple articles on it:
