Pass it on: Outdoor Therapy end of August in Calgary

Take your child's therapy outdoors with Nature Play! We offer SLP, OT, and PT services 100% outdoors. 

We currently have a couple of spots left in our OT/PT summer camp at the end of August! 

This Fall, we have a variety of programs for toddlers, preschool/Kindergarten-aged children, and school-aged children with mild-moderate therapy needs, all taking place in central Calgary's beautiful green spaces!

Summer Camp: Creating Confident Printers

 


Fine Motor Camp - Printing Basics

May/June 2022

 

A four-week fun and interactive camp for children in grades 1 - 3 who find printing or other fine motor activities challenging. The camp will be run by an experienced pediatric Occupational Therapist. A multi-sensory approach combining fine and gross motor movement to enhance learning will be used along with co-operative games and crafts to practice the skills needed for hand functioning.

 

The camp places an emphasis on grasp development, formation of lower-case letters, legible printing, copying shapes and letters, using school tools (pencils, scissors, glue), in hand manipulation skills, eye hand coordination and strength.

 

Also included is a short summary report identifying individual children's strengths, areas of need, and suggestions for further skill development will be provided. The summary report will be provided at the end of the group for parents to learn how to support their child with printing practice at home.

 

This camp is designed for children who may be experiencing mild to moderate delays in fine motor development or would benefit from extra practice.

 

Days: May 28, June 4, 11, 18, 2022 (4 sessions)

Time: 10:00 am - 11:15 am

Cost: $300.00

Note: Occupational Therapy services may be covered depending on health plan & are tax deductible.

Covid Protocols: Dates are subject to change if restrictions are in place for community activities. Precautions will be taken to limit sharing of supplies and all staff will be following the AHS covid protocols and vaccination program. Children are encouraged to wear masks however it will not be a requirement.

Developing Pre-Printing Skills
Pre-school/Kindergarten

Offered Wednesday, Saturday or Week long

COST : 5 sessions $450 *$400 (Early Bird rate) 

The development of muscle strength and dexterity in hands and fingers, eye-hand coordination, visual-motor control and visual perceptual skills are essential for the acquisition of pre-writing skills. This is a therapeutic program for students to improve pre-writing skills.

The Skills of Handwriting
Grade 3-6
Summer Session: JULY & AUGUST 2020
Dates & times to be determined.
Offered Wednesday, Saturday or Week long

COST : 5 sessions $450 *$400 (Early Bird rate) 

Studies have shown that increased legibility of handwriting can result in improved self-esteem, greater proficiency and stronger grades. This is a therapeutic program for students to improve cursive writing, focusing on the fundamentals of handwriting and lower case letters.

*Initial Consultation is required for new clients
*Each session will include evaluation of skills level & practical recommendations for home and school use if required
*Private consultation meeting with the therapist following the program to review progress and recommendations.

The Skills of Printing
Grade 1-3

COST : 5 sessions $450 *$400 (Early Bird rate) 

Children who experience difficulties with fine motor and visual motor skills often struggle in acquiring the skills of printing. This struggle can lead to frustration, poor motivation and reduced work output. This is a therapeutic program for students to improve printing skills, legibility and speed.

Self-Regulation Programs
(Alert/Zones of Regulation)
Grades 3-6
Summer Session: JULY & AUGUST 2020
Dates & times to be determined.
Offered Wednesday, Saturday or Week long

COST : 5 sessions (+ Parent session) $500 *$425 (Early Bird rate) 

These programs are designed to help students with self-regulation by teaching them how to recognize their own zones of regulation or “engine speeds”. Students will also learn various strategies to use to attain, change, or maintain their levels of alertness. In addition to addressing self-regulation, the students will gain an increased vocabulary of emotional terms, skills in reading others’ facial expressions, insight into events that trigger their behavior, calming and alerting strategies and problem solving skills.
