Occupational Therapist
Centre for
Autism Services Alberta is a non-profit organization that provides
comprehensive and innovative supports and services to children, youth and
families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Principles
of person-centered and family-centered care are embraced. The key individual will focus on building
skills for example: self-help and adaptive skills, functional physical and
motor development, sensory processing, and play and leisure.
Programming
is provided through home-based and centre-based services and utilizes and
innovative and integrated community based delivery model.
Experience
and knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- · Participate in a multi-disciplinary team through the provision of expertise in occupational therapy
- · Select and conduct standardized/non-standardized assessments to guide clinical practice
- · Consultation with stakeholders (e.g., caregivers, school personnel) on programming that supports participation
- · Implementation and evaluation of functional plans that support caregiver/parent and child participation
- · Maintain current knowledge on best practices in occupational therapy as it relates to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- · Collaborate with the clinical team in the development of individualized programming
- · Perform visits to review and implement programming regularly
- · Support the development and implementation of goals across contexts (school, home and community)
- · Collect and summarize clinical data to inform clinical practice
- · Recommend the purchase of program materials and supplies as related to individualized programming
- · Support training of paraprofessionals (orientation, individualized training on OT programming)
- · Coach, problem solve and mentor paraprofessionals and families on individualized programming
- · Contribute toward educational opportunities across stakeholders
- · Anticipate, assess and report risk management issues to the appropriate supervisor
- · Develop, facilitate and lead occupational therapy groups as required
- · Prepare and/or contribute to critical incident reports as required
Qualifications:
- · Registered Occupational Therapist
- · Member of Alberta College of Occupational Therapists
- · Knowledge and understanding of: Behavioural intervention programs, direct teaching strategies, Pivotal Response Treatment, theory and principles of child development, early childhood services
- · Excellent Interpersonal skills
- · Excellent written and oral communication skills
- · Demonstrated crisis assessment and intervention skills
- · Valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
- · Clean Criminal Record Check
- · Clean Child Welfare Check
- · Valid certification in Child and Infant CPR and First Aid
