The Sturgeon School Division is currently seeking a part time temporary Occupational therapist ( .5  is needed). The position is with the Early Childhood Education program, providing Occupational Therapy services in home and community settings to children with disabilities who are between 2 ½ and 6 years of age.

This position has tremendous job satisfaction: a supportive multidisciplinary team to work with and scheduling flexibility. Working connected with a small school division allows for the opportunity to really make a difference!

The ideal candidate we are searching for will have a background in pediatrics. The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and be registered with ACOT. Candidates must have own transportation as travel is required throughout the school division Competitive wages.
The Sturgeon School Division’s Central Office is in Morinville, approximately 15 minutes drive north of Edmonton. This school division covers a small geographical region immediately north of the Edmonton/ St. Albert /Fort Saskatchewan area.

Economic Analysis of OT services

I attended Dr Archie Cooper’s talk on community practice, sponsored by SAOT, at the U of A on January 17^th 2014. I am intrigued by her challenge to occupational therapists to include economic analysis in their discussions on the efficacy of our services from individual treatment modalities to models of service delivery and policy. I would like to have an email chat or Skype group chat with clinicians from various backgrounds on this topic. Do you have experience building an economic argument for your services? What are the implications of this for those who work for public services? In private practice? Is this all the responsibility of all or just those in management positions?

Request to shadow OTs in Calgary

Hello, my name is Keely and I am new both to Calgary and Canada!  I just recently graduated from San Jose State University with my master's in OT and will be moving to Calgary later this week. I have experience with a wide range of pediatric clients from both of my fieldwork sites as well as being a nanny to a special needs child but would love to hear what experienced clinicians have to offer, especially since I am new to the Canadian system. 

I am interested in trying to set up any sort of shadowing opportunities to see how the Canadian system compares to the US system and of course to see what's out there. So any possible connections to local Calgary OTs would also be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Occupational Therapist (Part-time/Contract position available)

From Play to Words Inc. is a growing private therapy practice that provides Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy services primarily to children between 0-16 years of age. Our Occupational Therapists provide services including assessment, consultation, and treatment for children with a range of disabilities, in collaboration with families and community partners in a variety of settings including home, clinic and schools. 

We are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist with experience in pediatrics to join our team. 

Qualifications and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited Canadian occupational therapy program and /or successful completion of Canadian O.T. certification exam process 

• Licensed to practice under the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)

• Minimum one (1) year clinical experience. 

• Experience with sensory integration, motor development, self-care skills and normal development as well as working with children in the areas of Autism Spectrum Disorder, will be an asset 

Key Responsibilities 

• Work with clients and their families to set OT goals which are occupation focused and have targeted, measurable outcomes 

• Provide direct service, consultation, mediation and education to client, family and community providers with a focus on maximizing a child's function in the areas of self-care; productivity (school and play skills) and leisure (community participation) 

• Utilize research to establish and support evidence-based practice 

• Provision of in-school consultations to parents and/or teachers as and when needed 

Hours

• We have part time and contract positions available 

• Flexible work schedules (daytime/evenings and/or weekends) available with additional options of completing the administrative part of the work (e.g. report writing etc.) from a home office
