Hello
I am a private service provider and am arranging a specialized service team for a new family I will be taking on in January 2013. I have been in contact with a number of OT's that I currently work with but have had no luck finding someone with availability. This family lives just north of Chinook mall and needs programming to be done between 4:30-6:30pm on Mon-Wed's as well as Saturday mornings. These times are when the aide will be working and all the professionals are free to come in whenever they can within those times. OT has about 4 hours per month in the contract to use (possibly a bit more than that from Jan-April). If anyone is interested please email Cindy Oneil at cindy-oneil@hotmail.com or phone (403) 669-6505. The child has autism and seems not too severe but I don't know much else about the family yet at this time.
Merry Christmas
Regards,
Cindy Oneil

Building Blocks with Sheila Frick
Dear Colleges,
Do you feel that something is missing in your practice? Do you feel you need something more in your tool box? Sheila Frick is coming to Calgary in May 2013 to address just that. Her hands-on workshop will explore the development of posture and reflexes, and its relationship to gross and fine motor skills along with visual and auditory function. This course will allow participants to fine tune their clinical observation skills for the clients who are often difficult to test. It will provide therapists with an in-depth understanding of the developmental and neurophysiological links between sensory integration and the basic primary movement patterns that provide the foundation (or building blocks) for sensory modulation and integration.
More information here.
We hope you are able to join us,
Carol & Krista

Sensory Product Trial
Squease is a new product very recently developed which helps people with sensory processing issues better deal with anxiety. More information is available at www.squeasewear.com including a 2 minute animation detailing how it works.
The product has been very popular with Occupational Therapists in the UK and has been featured in professional journals including that of the Sensory Integration Network (UK and Ireland).
We are now launching the product in Canada and are seeking to gather information on best practice and the appropriateness of the product to your methods. We are inviting a number of therapists to participate in a short trial of the inflatable vest which will be supplied free of charge in exchange for help in gathering feedback and reporting in what situations it is beneficial to their clients
Would you be interested in being part of the scheme? If so let me know and I will organize a vest to be sent out.
Many thanks for considering this invitation and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Mike Rowley

OCCTH 558 Development Projects
Hello Everyone,
The Department of Occupational Therapy, University of Alberta, is once again inviting you to submit ideas for program development projects for the course OCCTH 558 Enabling Occupation: Community. These will be completed by graduating (2nd year) MScOT students during the timeframe January 7 - March 1, 2013. The course is being coordinated by Sharon Brintnell, but I (Jutta) am once again the contact person for the Calgary and southern Alberta area (excluding Red Deer).
Please see the attached letter from Sharon Brintnell regarding proposed project ideas, what was completed last year, and what is needed now if you are wanting to submit a project for development. There is also a Project Checklist attached that is referenced in the letter from Sharon.
To summarize briefly, if you have ideas for new programs or the expansion of existing programs in your organization/setting, then feel free to submit a one paragraphoutline of the proposed project that can be posted on the web so that students start to have an idea of which project to pick. This needs to include a brief description of the site, the population to be served and the idea/rationale behind the project so that the students can start a literature search prior to meeting with you.
We would appreciate all proposals being submitted no later than December 12, 2012 by noon. They should be submitted to me (jutta.hinrichs@ualberta.ca) for review, as there may be duplicates or some projects beyond the scope of the students' timeframes and resources. Selected projects will be forwarded to Sharon Brintnell later that afternoon. Last year there were more projects than student groups, so unfortunately some projects were not chosen.
If you have any further questions after reading the attached 2 documents, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to receiving your one paragraph submissions in a few weeks.
For people outside the Calgary area, please contact Sharon Brintnell at U of A (sharon.brintnell@ualberta.ca) for information.
