On-Line Workshop for Parents of Children with DCD

Researchers and graduate students at CanChild worked with parents to develop and evaluate an innovative, online workshop. The workshop provides evidence-informed education, strategies and support for parents of children with DCD and other motor coordination challenges. The workshop is designed to improve parents' understanding of motor development and the impact of motor coordination difficulties on their child's ability to participate at home, in sports, and at school. On-line workshop hosting was made possible by the Hamilton District Society for Disabled Children.

Go to www.canchild.ca, and it is the 1st item under "What's New" on the Home Page

Looking for Information to Inform Best Practice in DCD

Hello,

I am conducting a Review of articles and documents that inform best practice in DCD. Although we have explored and discussed materials in our Community of Practice group, I wonder if any of you use documents in your practice that I may not be aware of --  Guidelines or protocols, Decision Trees (Algorithms), or Clinical Pathways.

I think we all use materials from the CanChild website; I am also aware of the Leeds Consensus Statement from 2006 and the recent EACD Guidelines with Blank et al’s article in DMCN.

Am I missing anything?

Have you or your department/ agency developed guidelines that guide how you assess, treat or manage children with DCD?

If you are aware of any documents, could you please forward them to me? Or forward this email to someone else who may be able to assist me?

With my thanks and appreciation!

Family Looking for OT

I am looking for OT. I think my five year old son has some sensory issues. He needs help from OT.

He is very picky eater, with self limited diet. A lot of times he has too many touchings to others, and played rough. I wonder whether you can help him. I live in Arbour Lake, NW. Thanks.

SOS Trained Therapist?

I am looking for some information on therapists that are trained in the SOS Approach to feeding.  I have a child on my caseload that has a very limited diet and I am looking for strategies I can use to assist her.  I understand that the SOS Approach is a strategy that you need to be trained in to use and would like to get a few names of therapists in the Northern Alberta/Edmonton area that I could give to the family if they choose to pursue the treatment route.

Thank you,

Meghan
