Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another.  The District is comprised of over 42,000 students and 5,000 employees in 96 schools and other sites.

Edmonton Catholic Schools requires Occupational Therapists to provide Occupational Therapy services to children in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten who are eligible for Program Unit Funding through Alberta Learning. The incumbent is primarily responsible for the assessment, treatment and consultation services required as part of the Early Education program in the District.
The job identifies and addresses fine motor and gross motor, visual perception, sensory processing and self-help issues that have been impacting the child’s performance at school.

These are casual, Out of Scope, Level 7 positions with a salary range of $44.51 - $55.64 per hour to commence as soon as possible. The successful applicant’s starting salary will be based on the individual’s education, qualifications and directly related experience.

Primary Responsibilities:
Ø  Liaise closely with teachers, educational and therapeutic assistants, therapists, social workers, specialists and parents who participate as part of each child’s program planning team;
Ø  Administer, score and interpret standardized pediatric occupational therapy assessments;
Ø  Identify difficulties in fine motor, visual motor, self-regulation and sensory integration/processing;
Ø  Write assessment and treatment reports (year-end summaries, etc.) to share with parents and professionals within and outside of the Edmonton Catholic School system;
Ø  Monitor children’s progress by providing ongoing observation of development in the areas of self-help skills, fine motor skills, gross motor development, socialization/play skills and behavior, in conjunction with other members of the inter-disciplinary team;
Ø  Provide occupational therapy intervention within the context of typical classroom activities (circle time, snack time, fine motor project time, gym time, etc.);
Ø  Generalize intervention strategies to all natural environments, which include programming for generalization in the classroom, home and new environments;
Ø  Devise and train parents to implement home programs to permit carry-over of learning to home (provide strategies to facilitate their child’s development).

Qualifications:
Ø  Master of Science in Occupational Therapy or equivalent, with course work in assessment and treatment of fine motor, visual motor and perceptual difficulties;
Ø  Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapy (ACOT) is mandatory;
Ø  Knowledge of developmental milestones, developmental diagnoses, neurological conditions and sensory processing is strongly recommended, preferably with students in an educational setting;
Ø  Knowledge of facilitation, consultation and instructional techniques and principles;
Ø  Advanced problem solving, assessment and analytical skills;
Ø  Written, demonstration and oral presentation skills;
Ø  Ability to establish rapport and trust in working relationships with administration, teachers, families and community agencies;
Ø  Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Full-Time Maternity Leave Position

I’m For Kids Team is a Community-Based Early Intervention Program for children 2 ½ to 6 years with an inclusive, play-based approach to developmentally appropriate programming. Each child/ family becomes part of a Multi-Disciplinary Instructional Team consisting SLP, OT, PT, Psychologist, Educational Behaviour Specialist (EBS),  Program Support Assistant (PSA) and Education Coordinator (EC).

Our program offers a variety of programming options including individualized and small group programming, as well as opportunities for coaching parents and team collaboration. All Occupational Therapists work collaboratively in planning and delivering programming.

Responsibilities Include:
      Working with a supportive, progressive multi-disciplinary team
      Assessment and programming for preschool-aged children with a variety of needs
      Participation in the development of Individualized Program Plans (IPPs)
      Work collaboratively in community preschools and small groups settings with all team members including families, Preschool teachers, and Program Support Assistants (PSAs)
      Assist families in designing as appropriate educational program and sharing goals and progress throughout the year
      Contributing to ongoing Program Support Assistant training

Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- Registration with ACOT (Alberta College of Occupational Therapists) and proof of professional insurance
- Minimum of 2 years experience as an OT working with pediatric population
- Have a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel
- Current Police Information Check (Vulnerable sector, must be within the last 6 months)
